What is Discernment Counseling?
Discernment Counseling is designed for couples where one partner wants to stay in the marriage or relationship and the other is considering separation or divorce.
It is a specialized type of couples counseling designed to help couples who need to gain clarity about their marriage or relationship. Discernment therapy is designed to be a short-term, deliberate effort to guide you to a decision about the future of the relationship.
At ForwardUs Counseling, we provide the guidance, strategies and tools to support you move through the decision-making process.
How Does Discernment Counseling Differ From Marriage & Couples Counseling?
Unlike Couples Therapy, Discernment Therapy does not work through your relationship or marital challenges.
Whether you’re the partner “leaning in” or “leaning out”, we will not try to convince you to make the relationship work.
Through discernment therapy, you may decide to end the relationship or you may decide to restore it through couples counseling.
We support your decision.
Discernment counseling is the place to make a well-informed decision about whether to separate or continue working on the relationship.
Discernment Counseling does not advise you to stay together or break up.
We do not assess your marriage, but rather support your independence as you navigate the decision-making process.
